Our Approach to More Responsible Fashion
Made with Care, Designed to Be Loved
At Yumi, we believe beautiful clothing should be created with care—for the people who make it, the customers who wear it and the world we all share.
From our beginnings in Camden Market more than 30 years ago, we have always designed clothes with personality, colour and lasting appeal. Today, we are continuing that journey by making more considered choices across our collections, supply chain and packaging.
We know that fashion has an impact, and we do not claim to have all the answers. Sustainability is an ongoing process, not a finished destination. Our responsibility is to keep learning, improving and being honest about the progress we make.
-
Designed in London
Every Yumi collection begins with our in-house design team in London.
Our designers create the distinctive prints, flattering shapes and feminine details that define Yumi. Rather than designing clothes around a single moment or passing trend, we aim to create versatile pieces that can become part of your wardrobe for seasons to come.
From colourful day dresses and comfortable knitwear to occasionwear for life’s special moments, our focus is on creating styles you will enjoy wearing more than once.
-
More Considered Materials
The materials used to create clothing matter.
Across our collections, we are introducing and exploring more considered fabric choices, including linen, organic cotton and recycled fibres where suitable for the product.
We are also working with our suppliers to identify materials and production methods that can help us reduce our impact while maintaining the quality, comfort and affordability our customers expect.
Not every Yumi garment is made from a lower-impact material, and we will always aim to describe the fabric composition of each product clearly. Look for material information on individual product pages when shopping.
-
Thoughtful Details
The people behind our clothes are an essential part of our story.
We work with manufacturing partners in several countries, and we expect the factories producing Yumi garments to comply with applicable employment, health and safety, human-rights and environmental legislation.
Our manufacturing partners are required to undergo independent or recognised social-compliance audits.
These reviews help assess areas including:
• Working conditions and workplace safety.
• Working hours and employment practices.
• Wages and employee records.
• Child labour and forced-labour prevention.
• Modern-slavery risks.
• Factory management and compliance procedures.
ㅤ
Audits provide important oversight, but responsible sourcing also requires continued communication, monitoring and improvement. We work with our suppliers to address concerns and maintain the standards expected within our supply chain.
-
Style for Every Kind of Plan
We have replaced our previous single-use plastic mailing bags with branded paper mailers for customer orders.
Our paper mailing bags are recyclable and include a resealable strip, allowing many customers to reuse the same bag when making a return. This helps us reduce our reliance on single-use plastic packaging and avoid unnecessary additional packaging.
It is one practical change, but an important one—and part of our wider effort to review how Yumi products are packed and delivered.
Please remove any labels or non-paper components before recycling and follow the recycling guidance provided by your local authority.
Our Continuing Journey
We are proud of the progress we have made, but we recognise that there is much more to do.
Our priorities are to:
Increase the use of more considered and responsibly sourced materials
Improve the information available about our fabrics and products
Continue monitoring standards within our supply chain
Reduce unnecessary plastic and packaging waste
Design clothing with quality, versatility and longevity in mind
Communicate our progress clearly and without exaggeration
As a family-run British fashion brand, we want to make decisions that support the long-term future of Yumi, our partners and the communities connected to our clothing.
We will continue to review our approach and update this page as our work develops.
Making Better Choices, Together
Responsibility does not sit with one business or one person. It comes from the choices made throughout a garment’s journey—from its design and manufacture to how it is worn, cared for and eventually passed on.
Thank you for joining us as we work towards a more considered future for Yumi.
