Why Kimonos Are A Yumi Favourite
Over the years, kimonos have become an important part of many wardrobes. Their dramatic wide sleeves and relaxed fit make them an open-front friend for life, and perfect for rocking all year round. We feature them every season because of their easy shape. Plus, when combined with our exclusively designed prints, it’s a recipe for total style! But, it’s not simply because of their cut that makes them a Yumi favourite…
Just like kimonos, we have a connection to Japan – did you know that Yumi translates as beautiful? With Far East origins, kimonos are a cultural feature of all types of occasion in Japan. However, it’s often considered that the smarter the event, the more complex the design. The most casual option – the haori kimono – is the main inspiration for our exclusive collection. It was important to inject some authenticity into our work, which is why our designers travelled across the globe to learn about their history!
So, with the weather warming up (but it still being impossible to leave the house with an extra layer), we thought we’d introduce you to our kimono collection…
Coast to Cadaqués
Up first, our in-house designed flower kimono is a staple for the season. The pattern was inspired by the Mediterranean seaside town of Cadaqués, with blue hues that represent the ocean. Designed with crop sleeves for easy wear, it’s great for slipping on over your everyday outfit or packing in your suitcase for an added evening layer!
Return to the Sixties
Apart from the comfortable fit, the print of the kimono is one of the most important features. And, in the case of this piece, it’s an outstanding one! In a relaxed design, this vibrant cover-up features oversized florals in vivid and summery colours. For the ultimate wardrobe hero, keep it in your handbag as a safety net for chilly breezes.
Force of Nature
Since it’s spring, it’s only right to dress for the season! Stand out from the crowd by opting for this bright kimono. Much like our other pieces, the shape is loose and the colours are bold. But in this case, the oriental print echoes it’s Japanese origin, more specifically the cherry blossom found in Kew Gardens. With a versatile shape and standout shades, pair it with white jeans and a plain camisole.
Finally, designed with a garden-inspired print, our botanical kimono is suitable for all temperatures. Due to the simplicity of the white base, it can be used in the transitional months to bring your look to life. Or wear it in the warmer weather; the mix of garden florals and botanic buds are nothing less than summer-worthy! Choose a broderie dress to go underneath, pair with jewellery and watch your style bloom!
