Tea Break Tuesday: CFDA Awards Best & Worst Dressed
The annual CFDA (The Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards are always a highlight in our fashion calendar here at Yumi. On today’s Tea Break Tuesday blog post we take a look at the styles that excited and those which disappointed in this year’s round up of the best and worst dressed.
The award for best dressed here at Yumi HQ goes to model Miranda Kerr, who delighted in a dress from CFDA’s Womenswear Designer of the Year winners, Proenza Schouler. Also on top form were stylish sisters Kate and Rooney Mara, who both wore head-to-toe black, Rooney in a dress by Calvin Klein Collection and Kate Mara in Dolce & Gabbana and Brian Atwood heels.
Young actress Hailee Steinfeld was dressed by Suno – winners of theĀ Swarovski’s emerging talent prize – and looked amazing in a custom-designed crop top and full skirt, accessorized with Jimmy Choo heels and jewellery by Jennifer Meyer. Ellie Kemper also impressed with a similar look from the Naeem Khan autumn/winter 2013-14 collection.
Meanwhile, Joan Smalls stunned in a Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci pre-spring/summer 2014 white dress, whilst Hilary Rhoda went monochrome in a Helmut Lang dress. We loved the way she accessorized with neon yellow jewellery which added a touch of fun!
Failing to impress us were Jourdan Dunn, who looked too casual for the event in black trousers and crop top from Calvin Klein Collection, and Karlie Kloss who’s plunging dress from Cushnie et Ochs dress, seemed at odds with the summery looks seen elsewhere.
Metallic looks which fell short belonged to Nicole Richie in a Marc Jacobs autumn/winter 2013-14 slip dress and Karolina Kurkova and Cody Horn, who both wore silver ensembles by designer Michael Kors. Likewise, the citrus toned gowns of Kerry Washington and Juliette Lewis, failed to flatter either actress. Kerry Washington’s dress was from Jason Wu autumn/winter 2013-14, accessorized with a wooden clutch, whilst Juliette Lewis arrived with Zac Posen and wore a dress of his design.
Linda Evangelista made our worst dressed list thanks to her bulky black Oscar de la Renta dress, whilst Jessica Hart’s Rachel Roy dress looked like two different dress designs stapled together.
Lastly, Olivia Palermo, usually a style winner, got a thumbs down at Yumi HQ thanks to her Dennis Basso dress with gold gladiator style heels from Zara. Lily Aldridge wore The Row top-to-toe, with her shoes causing a stir for all the wrong reasons.
