Yumi Designer Rachel Kan Talks the Sail Away Trend
Drum roll please! We can reveal that our debut trend from Spring Summer 2013 is Sail Away! Yes, evoking all those chilled out and glorious feelings of a Summer holiday, we sat down with Yumi designer Rachel Kan to find out more about this trend……
- Hi Rachel! What inspired the Yumi Spring Summer 2013 Sail Away trend?
This trend is our homage to preppy, nautical style. I went on a day trip to Brighton and while wandering around the Marina and looking at the boats – I knew it was a print I had to include in Spring/Summer 2013.
- Can you tell us what garment shapes you went for?
I love retro shapes – there is nothing more flattering than a 1950’s style fit and flare and I felt this shape would fit perfectly with the retro nautical prints I was using for this trend.
- How did you decide on the colour palette?
We do research on future colours trends that coming up as well as going to Premiere Vision in Paris – a fabric show that showcases a wonderful selection of fabrics to use for the upcoming seasons. I decided to keep it classic nautical, so lots of blue, navy, white and red.
- What were your favourite shows from the Spring Summer 2013 season?
I really like the eclectic style mix of Michael van der Ham and the feminine shapes of Temperley. Eclectic and feminine are very Yumi!
